But now, it is my turn.
After spending so much time helping others build their dream homes, I have officially started my own build journey - not just as your New Home Consultant, but now as a proud Ultimate Builders client too.
I wanted to share my experience step by step because I know exactly how exciting, overwhelming, emotional, and rewarding building can feel. I also know many people sit on the fence wondering: “
"Where do I start?”
“Can I actually do this?”
“What happens first?”
“How stressful is building really?”
So, I am taking you behind the scenes of my own experience - the real journey from consultant to client.
Why Ultimate Builders?
People often ask me, “Out of all the building companies, why did you choose Ultimate Builders yourself?”
The answer is actually very simple.
Because I trust them.
Every day I see the care, communication, and commitment that goes into helping our clients. I see the excitement when keys are handed over and families walk into their completed homes for the first time.
I also see what happens behind the scenes:
- The attention to detail
- The support through the process
- The transparency
- The relationships built with clients
- The willingness to genuinely care
When it came time for me to build, I wanted a company I felt confident placing my own future in - and Ultimate Builders was an easy choice.
Step One - The Vision
Like many of our clients, my journey started with ideas.
Pinterest boards. Saved photos. Floor plans. Paint colours. Kitchen inspiration. Endless conversations about how I wanted my home to feel.
One thing I quickly realised was how important it is to build a home that suits your lifestyle - not just what looks good online.
I began asking myself:
- How do I want this home to function day to day?
- What spaces matter most to me?
- How do I want people to feel when they walk in?
- What features will still matter in 10 years?
This part is exciting because your home starts becoming personal long before construction begins.
Step Two - Budget and Planning
Even working in the industry, this stage still required careful thought and planning.
One thing I often tell clients is:
Building becomes much less stressful when you understand your numbers early.
That means:
- Understanding your lending position
- Knowing your budget
- Allowing for extras and contingencies
- Understanding what is included in your build
I have gained an even greater appreciation for how important guidance is during this stage. There is a lot to think about, but having the right people around you makes all the difference.
Step Three - Choosing the Right Section
Location was incredibly important to me.
I wanted somewhere that felt right not only for today, but for the future too. A place that aligned with the lifestyle I wanted to create.
This part of the journey reminded me how emotional building can be. You are not just choosing land - you are choosing where memories will be made.
Step Four - The Design Process
This has honestly been one of my favourite parts so far.
Seeing ideas slowly turn into plans makes everything start to feel real.
The little decisions suddenly become important:
- Kitchen layouts
- Storage
- Natural light
- Flooring
- Exterior colours
- Fixtures and finishes
As someone who helps clients through selections all the time, it has been really interesting now sitting on the other side of the table making those same decisions myself.
And yes… I now fully understand why clients change their minds five times on paint colours!
Step Five - Breaking Ground
There is something incredibly exciting about seeing construction begin.
After months of planning and decision making, suddenly there is movement. Progress. A physical reminder that your future home is actually happening.
I know there will be challenges along the way because every build journey has moments that require patience and flexibility. But I also know the end result will be worth it.
Why I Want to Share This Journey
I want future clients to see that building a home is achievable.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you start. You simply need the right support, good communication, and a team that genuinely wants the best for you.
I also want people to see the real side of building:
- The excitement
- The nerves
- The decisions
- The milestones
- The learning process
- The moments that make it all worthwhile
Over the coming months, I will be sharing updates throughout my build journey - from planning and selections right through to construction and completion.
So if you have ever wondered what it is really like to build, follow along with me as I experience it firsthand - not just as your consultant, but as a client too.
And honestly… I could not be more excited.
