Top Building Tips From Those In The Know

Top building tips from those in the know!

We asked our Chief Operating Officer and General Managers of Ultimate Builders for their top building tips so you can avoid the infamous statement ‘I wish someone had told me that when I was building! With 30+ years of experience between them, the following build recommendations are from their learnings and is advice we share with our clients while they are in the initial planning and design phase.

Ok, enough said- pen and paper out for notes, here we go with our top three tips:

Lloyd, our Chief Operating Officer, emphasised the importance of envisioning the flow of your future home. “One of the things that I do when looking at a plan is to imagine walking through the front door and then through the house.  With any design flow it is important to how each space works with the adjoining one.  You also must imagine how you will use the space and at what time of the day you will be in it.  When understanding the size of rooms relate it back to a double garage which is 6m x 6m which most people can visualise.”

Ryan, our General Manager of Bay of Plenty highlights the significance of reflecting on your daily habits during the design phase. “Think about where you envision enjoying your morning coffee, where you'll unwind after a long day, and which spaces will be the heart of your home. By prioritising these aspects during the design phase, we can create a living environment that truly resonates with your lifestyle.”

Sarah, our General Manager of Waikato, offers practical advice on managing expectations and embracing the journey. “Have fun! Building your own home doesn’t need to be stressful so don’t put too much pressure on yourself to ‘get it right!’ as there will always be things you’d like to change as your family, lifestyle and budget evolves. Make use of the experts as they’re there to help you create your vision so don’t be afraid to ask questions.  Oh, and storage…make sure you provide for plenty of storage!

That’s it! Remember to have fun, think about your favourite spaces and how you can bring these into the heart of your home. And visualise walking through your home. Flow, flow, flow.
